What is a firewall?

A Firewall is the first line of defence for computer networks. Acting as the gatekeeper to your critical information assets, it controls the flow of information to and from your corporate network.

In todays world of virus, spyware, and network intrusion attacks across the internet, it is critical to have a system in place that protects your valuable business network.

But a firewall is useful only if it is managed. The internet is a constantly changing place - so the firewall you install today may not protect you tomorrow.

Live monitoring

LASSO is a combination of hardware, software and humanware. A physical device is installed between your network and the Internet, and then our technicians begin to monitor the traffic.

Unusual activity is immediately reported to you via email or sms to your network administrator. Updates to the firewall or related software is installed transparently. Network usage and statistics are available to you at any time.

It is like having your own security expert 24/7.

Mail Gateway

LASSO includes its own mail server and relay service so that you no longer have to expose your company's email server to the internet. All mail is delivered to LASSO, where it is checked for malicious intent (optionally including spam and virus filtering) and then passed onto the standard email server for delivery.

in this manner, hackers waste their time trying to compromise a hardened mail server installation rather than being able to attack your enterprise information systems.

LASSO's mail server is also protected by an Intrusion Detection System which reports on intrusion attempts.

Spam and Virus filtering

As part of its built in mail gateway, LASSO can filter all incoming emails for spam using a wide combination local and network tests to identify spam signatures. Spam filter updates are automatically downloaded periodically from the Wranglers update server.

Worm and spyware detection

Worm and spyware infections leave footprints through any network. These are detected through internet activity. LASSO monitors the internet activity of all your workstations, detecting any suspicious activity, such as mass mailing or port scanning. This activity can then be assesed, and any infection deleted.

Live updating

Live updating allows us to upload software updates your LASSO without requiring a site visit.

VPN access

LASSO allows the secure pass-through of VPN connections giving you remote access to your office information. Typical applications are email and office document access.

Technical

LASSO is built on the fondations of OpenBSD and pf which are synonimous with information security. With its opensource foundations, issues are identified early and fixes immediately - unlike closed-source products where issues can be hidden from users (but perhaps not from hackers).
