WHAT'S INSIDE STEER CMS
Steer cms contains everything most people need and nothing they don't thereby reducing complexity and cost. Need an additional feature? You can write it, or we'll do it for you.
Content
Content separation
All content is stored within a database as text. Presentation rules (style, formatting etc.) are applied to content only when a page is published.
User friendly
Steer cms includes one of the most user friendly administration environments available. Great care has been taken to make the process of content management as seamless and smooth as possible.
Authoring tools
Specialised authoring tools allow authors to edit the page in a live environment. Changes can be seen as they're made or seen in a preview mode. Complex content editing is carried out via a WYSIWYG interface that is both easy to use and also very powerful.
Multi-user authoring
Multiple users can work simultaneously within steer cms, and can be constrained to certain roles (such as editing or authoring) or to certain areas of the site.
Metadata management
Extensive information is collected in reference to content. Some are managed automatically (time edited, author etc.), others edited by the author (key words, language etc.). This allows you to detail page content and meta-tag, refining search engine searchability.
Asset linking
Links between content and assets (other pages, images, documents etc.) are managed through a simple to use interface. Links are dynamically managed to ensure consistency and broken links are avoided.
Advanced archiving
Content Versioning Systems (CVS) allow for advanced rollback capabilities in case of error or content loss.
Intelligent work flow model
A simple and effective work flow model handles the processes from content conception to publishing. This allows for published and unpublished content, as well as separating roles such as editing, approvals and publishing.
Workflows can be modified on the fly to add new output paths or formats without interrupting the normal functions of the site.
Publishing
Style sheets and templates
Steer CMS separates the content from the layout. Layout is defined in any number of independent templates that are applied during the publishing process. This separation of content and layout makes page creation simple while ensuring that the entire site is consistent and beautiful.
This separation also allows any future design modifications to be applied without any change to site content.
Extensibility
A modular and open-source design allows for the steer cms to have changes and/or functionality easily added. This makes way for future improvements and additional customisation at the core level.
Format options
Content can be published to a number of supported formats including XHTML, XML (rss and atom) and PDF, commonly used formats throughout the Internet. Steer CMS also allows for format extensions to be added in the future.
Presentation
Usability
Steer cms is easy to use and requires little training. Its interface is spacious and intelligently laid out, allowing fast visual interpretation of tasks and processes. With a clear navigation and structure, moving from task to task is as simple as clicking.
Accessibility
Conforming to all standards put forward by the W3C Web Accessibility guidelines, Steer CMS is also user friendly for people with visual disabilities.
Browser Support
Steer cms is compatible with a variety of modern browsers, takes advantage of supported new technologies while remaining backwards compatible and uses minimal client side (browser) processing.
CMS Speed
Page size is minimised allowing for fast browsing through the steer cms administration areas.
HTML Validation
Content is validated by the W3C validation service to ensure code will render correctly. Any invlaid code is fixed automatically by the validation engine.
Security
Access Control
The PHPGACL engine is used in steer cms to power Access Control Lists (ACL). This provides advanced user management by allowing administration precise access permission control.
Authors have access to authoring tools, developers to code, designers to templates and any other mix of features, user groups and access definitions you choose.
Input Filtering
All user input is run through security screening filters to safe guard against SQL injection attacks.
Technical Specifications
Steer cms is powered by PHP and uses a MySQL database for data storage: PHP Ver. 5 MySQL Ver. 4.0+
Management Tools are tested in Mozilla 1.6+, Firefox 0.8+, Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5+.
